Pride of Peabody!!!10/18/05
Once a year the NFL holds a National tournament of Champions for youth flag football
where teams from all over the country compete to be crowned number 1. In order to make
the Nationals a team must win a regional qualifier. This year there were 7 regional qualifiers
run by NFL teams, they were; Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers,
Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants. On October
16th 2005, 4 teams from the Peabody youth flag football league competed, they were, the
9-11 Patriots, 9-11 Colts, 12-14 Rams and the 12-14 Patriots girls. All 4 teams played
extremely well and showed respect and class which we come to expect from Peabody
teams. Below are the results from the New York Giants regional qualifier.
9-11 co-ed Category
Peabody Colts 25 - NJ Healthquest Bears 6
Peabody Colts 12 - 128 Dreamers 6
Peabody Colts 0 - Levittown Raiders 18
Peabody Colts 32 - JCC1 6
Peabody Patriots 28 - Albany Redskins 12
Peabody Patriots 0 - Packers 16
Peabody Patriots 21 - JCC2 0
12-14 Boys Category
Peabody Rams 12 - New Jersey Warriors 28
Peabody Rams 0 - Montville Bengals 28
Peabody Rams 6 - Bronx Hurricanes 32
12-14 Girls Category
Peabody Patriots 7 - D.R.C Dreamers 6
Peabody Patriots 9 - D.R.C Dreamers 0
Both 9-11 teams failed to make the play-offs as it was only unbeaten teams that made the
final 4 in the 9-11co-ed division.
The 9-11 colts team had both Catarina Rocha and Kayla Jackson on the team, who were 2
of the best girl players in the Peabody league this past spring. Both girls played very well at
the tournament, Kayla played very well on Defense and Catarina had multiple TD's and
interceptions.
The 12-14 girls team had only one opponent therefore it was a best of three series. The
girls won both games and have now qualified for the National tournament of champions.
The 8 girls and one coach will receive an all expenses paid trip to the Nationals which is to
be held at the Disney Wide World of sports complex in Florida on the 18th/19th November
2005. The games will be televised on ESPN 2 and Boomer Esiason will be there to
represent the NFL. We wish all our girls the best of luck in the finals.
The regional qualifier was a great experience for all the players, parents and coaches, and
we would like to thank the NFL and the New York Giants because through their youth
programs the kids have a chance to do something special. Hopefully we will return next year
with more experience and send more Peabody teams to the qualifier and you never know
maybe some more team to the Nationals.
