Second Annual Summer Football Festival
Sunday June 24th, 9am - 6pm
Peabody Veterans Memorial High School

Last Sunday June 24th was a marathon of flag football at Peabody High School in MA.
Games began at 9:30 in the morning with the 6-8 tournament and ended with the 12-15
division playing the championship game under the lights at 8:30pm. There were 26 teams
from 7 different leagues that participated in the event and a total of 57 games were played
on the high school football fields.

In the 6-8 division 8 teams competed and the NHFFL (New Hampshire Flag Football league)
brought 3 teams to compete against the Peabody teams, all 3 NHFFL teams finished in the
top 5, with a combined record of 11-4, the NH Texans made it all the way to the
Championship game but were defeated by Peabody's Spring 07 Champions the Jets. The
NH Chargers only gave up one TD all day and that was in OT against the Jets in the
semi-final. The Jets finished 5th in the rankings but managed to put it together in the
playoffs and win the 6-8 division tournament. The Redskins of Peabody who previously won
the 5-6 division in the PYFFL did not win a game on the day, when asked what happened
the coach blamed it the moon bounce and bungee run (just kidding).

Teams from Peabody, MA, Plymouth, MA, Pelham, NH and Syracuse, NY made up the 9-11
division on the day. There were some great games played with 7 of the games being
decided by a TD or less. No Peabody team made the Championship game as the Raiders of
Plymouth, MA went up against last years Champions the Eastwood Bears of Syracuse, NY.
In the end the Raiders won an excellent game 15-8 and were crowned 07 Football Festival
Champions.  The Bucs put in the best Peabody performance on the day finishing 4-1 and
loosing out in the semi-final to the Eastwood Bears whom they beat in the round robin
34-28. The Chiefs who recently won the 9-11 PYFF Championship finished with just a 1-3
record, when asked what happened the coach blamed it on the cheerleaders (just kidding).

10 teams played in the very competitive 12-15 division and there was an abundance of
experience and talent on display. 3 very strong teams from NY made the long drive to
Peabody to compete and they were rewarded for their commitment as all 3 teams made the
semi-final which ultimately resulted in the Championship game being an all NY affair. The
Chiefs of Peabody who won last seasons PYFF 12-14 division, finished 3-0 in the round
robin after beating 2 of the 3 NY teams but fell in the semi-final 26-20 to the C.N.Y Broncos.
The Championship game was a very tight contest but in the end it was the Yonkers Bengals
who defeated the C.N.Y Broncos 12-8. The PYFF All-stars scored just 20 points on the day,
when asked what happened the coach blamed it on playing 3 games in 5 hours (just
kidding) (not really)!!!

Overall the event was a great success and everybody had a great time. The mascots, moon
bounce, bungee run and obstacle course were a huge hit with the little ones, the
cheerleaders were a huge hit with everyone and the games were played in good spirits.
Thank you to everyone that helped out on the day from parents and coaches to players and
volunteers we could not have done it without your help.

We would like to thank especially the Patriots cheerleaders and mascot for brightening up
the kids day with autographs and high fives, the Manchester Wolves arena team
cheerleaders wolf pack and Blitz the mascot for donating their time to come down to
Peabody and put a smile on our faces, the refs, Cedric, Jeff, Riley, Tony and Justin for a
very long day along with David Robinson, Brendan Burgess, Deanna Moreschi, Erika Weiser
and Samantha Famolare for running the inflatable's. Dan Thomas for the announcements
and play by play, Kenia McKeon and Peggy Weiser for running the registration tent, Simone
