End of season review Spring '06

In the spring the PYFF season spans 8 weeks in total, however this spring the season went
on for a total of 12 weeks. Rain out after rain out caused a lot of disruption to the league
this past spring and for the first time since the league began some games were missed. The
main victims were the 6-8 age group that had to miss one weeks worth of games, the league
tried to compensate this loss the best way possible by entering all the 6-8 division teams
into the "Football Festival" tournament for free!!!

Despite the inconsistent weather during the season the games still went ahead and 19
games a week were played with some great games at the Higgins this past spring. Out of 38
teams a record 7 teams went undefeated on the season and a record low of only 4 teams
failed to register a win, showing that the standard in the league is continuing to grow. Every
season continues to grow and every season continues to get better. The biggest growth this
season was the 12-14 division which increased from 8 to 12 teams from last fall. The 9-11
division still had 16 teams, while the 6-8 division went from 12 to 10 teams. Every year
players graduate their age group and move up into a more challenging division and teams
soon find out that the going gets a little bit tougher playing against the older kids.

During the season coaches and ref's keep an eye out for the young talent on the fields and
between the coaches and refs recommendations players from the 9-11 and 12-14 group are
selected for the "All-star team". The All-star teams along with the finalists in both age groups
are eligible to attend the NFL Youth Flag Football regional qualifier which is held at Giants
stadium in NJ. We feel that this years All-star teams are the best we have ever had and the
teams are going to do very well in NJ this coming October.

At the end of the season PYFF organized its first ever one day tournament which was held
at the High School on Fathers day June 18th. 22 teams competed in 3 age categories on
the day, teams came from Plymouth, MA, Wachusett, MA, Rotterdam, NY and Syracuse NY
along with our own Peabody teams. In the 6-8 division it was an all Peabody final and the
Cardinals took the title, in the 9-11 division our own Jets that recently won the PYFF
championship reached the final against an All-star team from Syracuse "the Bears" but
unfortunately lost to the Bears and in the 12-15 bracket it was an all NY final and the
Panthers from Rotterdam defeated the Bears from Syracuse. All the Peabody teams put on
a good showing but are now a little more understanding of the level of play around the
North-East.

In the fall there will be new age categories offered by the NFL they will now be 5-6, 7-8,
9-11, 12-14, 15-17. On-line registration will begin August 1st and in person registration will
be held as always at the Higgins Middle school on Saturday mornings in September. In the
fall games will be played at Emerson park from 11am - 4pm. Please contact us if you have
any questions about the fall league.
Thank you to everyone for another memorable season have a nice summer and see you in
the fall.
