Coaches of the Season!!!
With more and more kids signing up for the league this past season it was clear the
league needed more and more coaches. Thankfully due to parents and relatives
volunteering their time to coach the kids of Peabody the league was once again
successful.
The Fall '05 season started before a ball was even snapped as all the coaches got
together at the kindly donated conference room of the Peabody Municipal light plant.
Coaches from every team attended the meeting to receive equipment, rules, schedules,
rosters, free gym bags from Dick's sports and so on. It was clear from the very first
meeting that with returning coaches and interested parents the league would be in good
hands.
This season the league had 54 coaches, coaching 36 teams and working hard to ensure
their team played well and had fun!!!
Each season the coaching staff gets more and more into the NFL flag football experience,
with the new coaches finding their feet and returning coaches hoping to improve on last
season's results.
While every coach did an outstanding job coaching their team this season there were 4
coaches that performed above and beyond.
They were:
Bill Minton Jack MacMahon Dan Dean Gary Creamer
6-8 Eagles 9-11 Colts 9-11 Colts 12-14 Patriots
Bill Minton the 6-8 Eagles coach had the biggest turn around season the league has ever
seen. Last spring season, Bill's Bears went 0-6 and lost in the play-offs, however this fall
season Bill's Eagles took flight and went undefeated in the regular season and won the
NFC Divisional game. The Eagles didn't win the Championship this time around but
something tells me they will be there again next season. However coaches don't just win
the coveted "coach of the season" award through good results alone, no, it takes much
more!!! It just so happens that Bill's positive coaching techniques were mentioned in the
local newspaper, (the Peabody Weekly) the headline being "A positive role model" and
that is exactly what he is, always positive, always enthusiastic, never leaves a kid out and
always has fun no matter what the result. Read the article in the news section for more
about Bill and what the league is all about.
Jack McMahon and Dan Dean have been coaching together for 2 consecutive seasons
now. Last season their 49ers went undefeated during the regular season but lost out in
the 2nd round of the play-offs. This time around their 9-11 Colts went undefeated again in
the regular season, but this time the team was not to be denied and the Colts finished the
season by winning the AFC Championship and the Superbowl, to be crowned Peabody
Youth Flag Football Champions. Jack McMahon was also responsible for coaching the
9-11 All-star team that attended the Giants NFL youth regional qualifier back in October.
The team came out of the Meadowlands with a very impressive 3-1 record. Both coaches
have a good grasp on the NFL's guiding principles for youth flag football and both
coaches are a credit to the league.
Gary Creamer the 12-14 Patriots coach did the Patriots proud this fall after finishing the
regular season with a perfect record. The Patriots took the momentum into the play-offs
and won a close fought Championship game to take home the bling just like the real
Patriots did. However unlike the modern day Patriots there are 3 girls on this team all of
which played just as good as if not better than some of the guys!!! Creamer's own
daughter was the MVP of the girls team that went to the NFL National Tournament of
Champions in Florida this past November. Mr Creamer has the perfect attitude and
approach to the game and never takes it too seriously making him the final "coach of the
season"
Well done to all the coaches of the season and to all the coaches of the league, every
year just gets better and better. The kids thank you, the parents thank you and i thank
you because without you guys this league would not be possible!!!
