                         team going to Nationals!!!

PEABODY — The Peabody All-Star Girls Youth Flag Football team is headed
for Disney's Wide World of Sports next month to compete in the Youth Flag
Football Nationals. After winning the East Coast qualifier at Giants Stadium
recently, the Peabody team is one of only eight finalists who will compete at
the Nationals in Florida.

"It's so exciting. I still can't believe we're going," said Kenia McKeon, a 14-
year-old on Peabody's eight-person team. "Flag football is tons of fun, and
all of us are friends."

McKeon, who finished sixth in the recent Punt, Pass and Kick competition
held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, is a freshman at Peabody High. She
plays volleyball for the Tanners and plans on trying out for both the
basketball and softball teams.

The National Football League will pay for all accommodations, flights, and
meals for the two-day event Nov. 18 to 19. Games will be televised on ESPN,
and former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Boomer Eisiason will be on
hand to represent the NFL.

Erika Weiser, a 12-year-old seventh-grader, has been playing in Peabody's
flag football program for three season's.

"I was the only girl on the team my first year, and there were two of us last
year," Weiser said. "Now we have the all-girl team, which I really like.

"We all can't believe we're going to Florida and playing at the Magic
Kingdom."

Peabody team members include Mackenzie Carpenter, McKeon, Weiser,
Brittney Creamer, Emily Milewska, Samantha Famolare, Breanna Ricci and
Dale Gannon.

Four teams from Peabody made the trip to the Meadowlands, where the
Peabody Patriots (ages 9-11) finished with a 2-1 record and the 9-to-11 Boys
All-Stars narrowly missed the playoffs with a 3-1 mark. Only the top four
teams advanced, and the Peabody boys were fifth.

But the Peabody girls posted a perfect 2-0 mark, beating two different teams
from New Jersey, 7-6 and 9-0. Weiser ran for the extra point to put Peabody
ahead, 7-6, after the New Jersey girls had scored the first touchdown but
missed the extra point.

"We had a fundraiser for the bus to Giant Stadium and drove 450 miles,"
said league president Austin Bradshaw, who also coaches the girls' team.
"It was well worth it, a great experience for all the kids playing on the same
field where the Giants play their home games.

"We've got a very strong group of girls, and they've done a great job."
