Coaches of the Season!!!7/13/05

Its that time again when we honor the coaches of the season,
these coaches have been chosen through parental input, the 4
referees and myself. This season had the most coaches ever in
Peabody Youth Flag Football history, with over 25 coaches
volunteering their time to coach children flag football in Peabody.
For many coaches it was their first time in a coaching capacity
and for others it was a case of transferring previous coaching
skills to the flag football league. All coaches have different styles
and techniques but what matters in the end is that everybody
plays and everybody has fun. This seasons coaches have not
only been teaching the basics of throwing and catching but also
teaching children offensive plays and defensive strategies,
hopefully all of which they can relate to the real thing in the NFL!!!
While all the coaches did a tremendous job this spring there were
a 4 coaches which stood out. The 4 coaches were;

While Mr Silva and Mr Rose Saints team didn't win the
championship they proved to all the other teams that a positive
attitude always wins. The Saints who were placed 6th at the end
of the regular season finishing with a 2-4 record went rampant in
the Play-offs by beating both the #3 and #2 seeds to make it to
the championship game. The Saints team made up of 7 boys and
3 girls showed excellent sportsmanship all season long and never
gave up.

Sarah Tanners Patriots are continuing a unique trend here in the
PYFFL. Sarah is the second female coach in the 9-11 division to
go undefeated the entire season and walk away with the
Championship at the end. Sarah has done an excellent job with
the team this spring, from day 1 she has always been very
detailed in her approach to the team and it seems to have paid
off. Sarah's Pats have been very enthusiastic all season long and
emphasized that working together as a team is the key to success.

Mr Rigney has been coaching in the PYFFL since it started back
in April 04. Over the first 2 seasons he took his teams to the finals
and on both occasions loosing the Championship game on the
last play of the game. Not this year, finally Mr Rigneys Patriots
took the title with room to spare. After finishing the season in 5th
place with a 3-3 record it appeared that it was going to be another
long season but in the Play-offs the Pats proved they meant
business by posting the highest score in PYFFL history 67-32. Mr
Rigney has showed us that keeping it together and keeping it
simple helps the kids focus and play better football.

Congratulations to all the coaches of the season and all the
coaches of the league without your help this league would not be
possible. Thank you.
