Tournament News 12/07/04
While most teams from the Peabody Youth Flag Football
League
were hanging up there cleats and flags for the year, the 9-11
Chiefs and 12-14 Bills decided to extend their flag football
season by entering a regional tournament. The tournament
was held last
weekend at the Colonial golf course in Wakefield,MA. The
tournament with over 40 adult and 8 youth flag football teams
from 9 states was played over a 2 day period.
The 9-11 year old Chiefs managed to win their first 2 games
against teams from Londonderry,NH and Harrisburg,PA. The
chiefs then moved on to the play-offs, ranked number 1. A
20-6 victory in the semi-final sent the chiefs into their second
championship game in a matter of weeks. However the result
this time would not be in favour of the Chiefs as they lost a
close 12-2 game against the team from PA.
The 12-14 year old Bills found the going a little tougher in the
under 16 division. Whilst games against teams from
Newport,NH and Marshfield,MA both resulted in losses the Bills
stayed strong and took an early lead in the semi-finals.
However this time is was not meant to be as they couldn't hold
on for the victory.
Both teams played extremely well throughout the tournament
and
maintained a high level of sportsmanship that we come to
expect
from Peabody teams. For their first tournament ever both
teams and coaches need to be congratulated on their
performances and for putting Peabody on the Flag Football
map!!!
